I have been a member of Chapter#82 since 1982. I was the 7th person in the chapter.

I was the first Agent Orange chairman. I have been on the Board of Directors every year. I was Chapter President in 1984 to 1988. I have been the Treasurer of Chapter 82 ever since it began.

I have represented the Chapter when I was President of the United Veterans Organization (the “UVO”) of Nassau County and President of the Long Island National Cemetery Memorial organization at Farmingdale.

I was a co-founder of the Vietnam Veterans Resource Center. I have been a delegate to the New York State Council since 1982 and was Vice President for three years.

I have been a Delegate representing the Chapter at all of the National Conventions and I sit on three National Committees: Minority Affairs, Constitution, and Employment Training and Business Opportunities (“ETABO”). I am the Chapter’s Minor-ity Affairs, ETABO and Member Merchandise Chairman.

I also raised funds to build a monument in Hicksville for the Korean & Vietnam Veteran. I have received the Nassau County Medal for its Distinguished Veteran.

I am presently the Commander of Chapter 417 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. I served with B Company 4th of the 21st 11th Light Infantry Brigade of the Americal Division from 1969 to 1970. I am married to AVVA Rep. Cherie Steers for 35 years. (How did she last this long I do not know).
