I
am an in-country Vietnam Veteran and served between 1969 and 1970
with the First Infantry Division.
I have been a VVA member for
over 18 years, and Chapter 82 for the last 12 years. Currently, I am
the First Vice President and serve on the Board of Directors. I also
serve as a New York State Delegate am New York’s Sons & Daughters In
Touch Liaison and Chair the State’s Constitution Committee. For
Chapter 82 I Chair the Agent Orange / Dioxin, Constitution / Bylaws,
and Silver Rose Committees. I coordinate our Walter Reed Hospital
Program which visits the facility to meet our wounded troops from
Iraq and Afghanistan. I also serve as a Liaison for the Color and
Honor Guard.
I attended the National
Leadership Conference where I learned a great deal about how the VVA
operates and received an education regarding Agent Orange and the
Silver Rose.
I have been privileged to
receive Chapter 82’s Veteran of the Year and the Order of the Silver
Rose, Silver Rose.
I traveled to Washington D.C.
for the 20th Anniversary for the “Vietnam Veterans Memorial” and the
10th Anniversary for the “Women’s Memorial.” I participated with the
Virginia Chapter “Color Guard” at the “3 Man Statue” for the Victims
of Agent Orange.
This year I worked with the
Town of Oyster Bay to bring the “Vietnam Wall Experience” to
Marjorie Post Park, in Massapequa, Long Island New York, for the
April 30, 2005 weekend – the 30th Anniversary of the end of the Viet
Nam war. During that weekend it was my pleasure to be instrumental
in establishing the Nations first visible legacy to the more than
300,000 Vietnam Veterans chemically wounded or killed by Agent
Orange dioxins (see photo below).
Also this year I was part of a
Chapter group that attended the Veteran’s Day proceedings at the
Wall in D.C., and part of the only local-chapter to present a wreath
during these proceedings.
I have retired after 32 years
with the Town of Oyster Bay, and am married with five surviving
children.
